5 must-visit religious spots in North India

While there are countless tourist spots in India, many of them have a spiritual undertone too. So, a pious Indian traveler can take heart from the fact that a voyage to these sites will give his heart the soulful ecstasy it seeks without depriving the eyes of their visual treat.

In North India itself, there are some beautiful spiritual attractions. Here is a look at 5 of such must-visit corners:

Rishikesh: Rishikesh is the place where you can have a rendezvous with the fast-flowing Ganga. It is the place where you can attend the evening aarti and float diyas (earthen lamps) over the river at twilight. But Rishikesh, besides having temples and the sacred Ganga, is also known for adventure sports like river rafting. You will also come across a stream of foreign tourists in this town which is unofficially known as India’s Yoga Capital.

Pushkar: Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan is a must-visit religious site, simply because of the fact that it has a very famous temple dedicated to Lord Brahma. It is famous because it happens to be the only temple of Lord Brahma in the world. When in Pushkar, also make sure to visit the nearby town of Ajmer.

Haridwar: Haridwar literally means ‘gateway to God’. So, no wonder, it makes it to the priority list of most devout tourists. It is similar to Rishikesh in its personality but the truth is that every corner in this country will fill you with a different kind of an experience.

Ranthambore: If you are a wildlife lover, you will be delighted to learn that Ranthambore is not just a place to pay homage to the last remaining tigers. It is also home to a very famous Ganesha Temple in the country. So, if you are itching to photograph the tigers but have an elderly mother or a God-fearing religious wife for company, you can plan a Ranthambore trip without any guilt.

Varanasi: India holiday packages will drop you to various rare places and one of them is Varanasi or Benares. It is the land of temples and river ghats. With 80 river ghats/banks in its domain and the famous Temple of Kashi Vishwanath sitting majestically, this holy destination is one of the holiest destinations in the country.
