Home Away from Home in Ooty

Udhagamandalam or Ooty is a mesmerizing hill station located in the Nilgiris in southern India. The panoramic natural beauty, chilling weather, and lush green valley attract tourists to spend their vacation amidst the laps of nature. Famously known as the ‘Queen of Hill Stations’, there is no dearth of sightseeing places in Ooty that one can visit.  However, the chief attraction of this magnificent hilly terrain is its homestays.

The motto of homestays in this little town is ‘home away from home’. The concept of homestay is to offer an escape window not just from the chronic monotonies of day to day life, but also from the chronic commercial tours. Many valued heritage buildings in the hill station have now been converted into comfortable and sophisticated homestays. If you wish to live in a home away from your home, then homestays are an idyllic option for you. We as travelers always crave for home-cooked food and a homely environment even on a vacation.

No matter how luxurious a hotel is, it cannot curb down our desire for homely environment, but homestays can do that! Mouth-watering delicacies that are cooked in the homestays are served to tourists. Also you are served fresh vegetables that grow in the hills of the town, unlike the regular restaurants. Even the smallest of heritage houses have been converted into homestays and cottages to offer a homely environment.  Each room of a homestay is allotted to different group of guests. Living in a homestay is like living in a better version of your house. These homestays are generally found close to the chief sightseeingplaces in Ooty.

Next time you plan to visit Ooty, make sure you choose one of the comfortable homestays rather than a hotel for spending your nights.
